(old) drzon “ barberry “, kaschub. dřòn “prickle”, polab. dren “thorn”. Gmc.-sl. basic form could be *dherghno- and would stand admittedly in its meaning ‘sprout, twig, branch”, pl. “young shrubbery, bush” considerably differently colored Gk. τρέχνος (Hes., anthol.), τέρχνος (Maximus), Cypr. τὰ τέρχνιjα very close.
